MASUM came into existence in June 2004 at the University of Texas at Arlington. What started as a college band with Sameer and Mudassar, has now become a collective dream of many others.
A MASUM track brings together deep emotion expressed in one of the most beautiful languages ever Urdu and sounds that linger in your memory long after it’s over.
Though extremely difficult to typecast, the style closely resembles genres such as rock, pop and classical Indian music.
The band has performed at a variety of events and the sounds of MASUM have been well received. In August 2006, MASUM was selected and had the privilege to open for popular Indian band, Indian Ocean.
MASUM’s first single Tumhaari Yaadein was released on Radio Salaam Namaste (the only 24-hour FM Desi Radio Station in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, in Texas) in March 2007 and has been receiving substantial airplay. Subsequently the station invited MASUM to perform live at their studio.
The band is primarily based out of Dallas, Texas and is currently working on their first album, which upon completion, would be marketed in North America and Asia.
MASUM is currently in the process of recording demos for some of their original compositions (March-April 2008). Efforts are also on to associate the band with a record label.
In a short period MASUM has performed at a variety of events and in the process has been building on its ever-growing fan base.
Taking off from where the IPL and T20 world cup left off, FUSION brings Cricket and Entertainment together and MASUM is invited to perform before what is expected to be a capacity crowd. After the overwhelming response to Tumhaari Yaadein, the radio station invites MASUM to perform live at their studios. The band plays unplugged versions of their songs and talks to fans calling in to the station.
It was the next step in MASUM's quest towards furthering the cause. Tumhari Yaadein received airplay on Radio Salaam Namaste the premier Indian radio station in the Dallas FortWorth metroplex. Several of the listeners called in to enquire about the song and expressed their wishes. The song has been since receiving substantial airplay.
Being chosen to open for Indian Ocean - an accomplished Indian band was a great moment for MASUM. The band used the opportunity to launch its new single Jab Se Dekha Use. The two bands dined together and shared several light moments. Interacting with Indian Ocean was a great learning experience for the band.
The Indian Students association, the biggest student body in the University of Texas invites MASUM to perform at their annual show.
The federation for Pakistani residents in the Dallas FortWorth metroplex invites MASUM to perform at the Independence Day celebrations. The rodeo stadium with a packed audience enjoyed the band's original compositions.
UTA's Indian Music and Cultural Arts Society invites MASUM after the overwhelming response for the band's debut show. MASUM's third single Rishtey is launched and very well received. The sounds of MASUM reach a wider audience.
MASUM debuts at the University of Texas at Arlington's annual show. The band opens with its hit single Tumhari Yaadein and follows it up with the crowd favorite Suraj Naya. As a tribute to Strings, the band does a cover version of Anjaney.
